I feel like I should write some prolific post about relaunching Song of the Day and our mission statement to provide you with daily song suggestions in hopes of expanding your musical taste, but instead, I have chosen a song that carries that message.

The inaugural song for Song of the Day Part Two is none other than the very fitting ‘Swim Until You Can’t See Land.’

‘Swim Until You Can’t See Land’ is fittingly about moving on and starting fresh. The song has an excellent build and great dynamics, starting off sparsely with guitar and slowly building into a chorus and only growing from there.

In an interview with A.V. Club, Scott Hutchison, singer-guitarist and primary songwriter of Frightened Rabbit, said that The Winter of Mixed Drinks does not exclusively feature “songs about girls,” a theme that repeatedly shows up in their earlier work. Instead, the album is primarily focused on songs about self. “Swim Until You Can’t See Land,” is a primary example of this, with lyrics like “Are you a man”/Are you a bag of sand?”

Their new album Painting of a Panic Attack was released on April 8 this year.
