The Lost Brothers have made a habit of producing eye-catching videos and the new cut for latest single ‘Spanish Reprise’ is no exception. Put together by Zoe Genders and Melvyn Ternan, the video combines beautiful photography with quirky animation to offer up a magical feel – while the echoes of the album’s artwork add to the sense of identity. “After talking to the boys and getting an idea of where they wanted the video to go visually, we left with the idea of “grand, open, sprawling spaces – large, rich vistas” in our heads and the original artwork created for the new album,” Melvyn said. “Something was itching us and we finally landed on our final influence: Edweard Muybridge and both his photographic work and ‘studies’ in motion work. Both these bodies of work, often celebrated and discussed by animators, had never really met in any way before now and are sometimes believed to have been created by two different people.” The motion studies were handcut and put against the time-lapsed background, with the directors keen to avoid digitising the process where possible, and the result certainly looks worthy of the effort invested.
The Lost Brothers are heading out on tour in November.
