Marling album sales rocket after Mercury nomination

Sale of Elfin songstress Laura Marling’s debut album rocketed in the last month thanks to her Mercury prize nomination.

Figures released by HMV on September 17 show Marling’s Alas, I Cannot Swim received a ‘percentage uplift’ of 431%, and whatever that means exactly it definitely bodes well for the Hampshire born artist.

Fellow folksters Rachel Unthank and the Winterset also saw a huge boost to sales of second album, The Bairns, after making the Mercury shortlist.

Marling continues her US tour on September 20 with an appearance at the humorously named Bottom Lounge in Chicago, before making her way to Minneapolis the following day to play The 400 Bar.
