Singles round-up: Melodica Melody & Me, The Pipettes, Pagan Wanderer Lu

MMMMelodica, Melody & Me – ‘Piece Me Back Together
Melodica, Melody & Me are a 6-piece folk band hailing from South London.  Their debut single, ‘Piece Me Back Together’ is exactly what bands hope their debut to be: full of beautiful lyrics, charm and leaving the listener wanting to hear more. Singers Huw and Anna’s voices compliment each other more than a cup of tea and a biscuit do on a cold day, as they sing us through a tricky situation between a boy and girl. Having appeared with Laura Marling and Johnny Flynn in the past and supporting Bombay Bicycle Club this month, Melodica, Melody & Me are starting off at the top and I for one can’t wait to see where they go from there. In the meantime check out their Myspace. Out Now

Picture 5The Pipettes – ‘Call Me’
The Pipettes latest single ‘Call Me’ is taken from their eagerly anticipated second album. It’s clear that they haven’t lost any of their spark that caused their debut album to do so well back in 2007,  not wasting any time they jump in head first with ’Call Me’ and get it spot on. This is British indie pop at its best: it’s fun, it’s catchy, it’s the perfect summer tune. The album ‘Earth vs. the Pipettes’ is not released until the 6th September so to keep yourselves going until then head to their Myspace for the single. Out 19th July

PWLPagan Wanderer Lu – ‘Banish Negative Thoughts’
Pagan Wanderer Lu is one of those artists in a genre all of his own. He’s been dubbed indie, electro or indietronica by some. What ever you want to call him, his latest single ‘Banish Negative Thoughts’ is good, very good. A weird and wonderful mix of distorted keyboards and god knows what else — he’s been known to use a keyboard that plays itself in the past — whatever it is he’s doing it works. For those of you who are unaware of Pagan Wanderer Lu (he’s been around since the early noughties) ‘Banish Negative Thoughts’ proves that he should carry on the way he’s going, because it worked for him all those years ago and its certainly still working for him now.
