Husband and wife duo Zoe & Cloyd are not your typical roots outfit. With an aim to pave new trails in Appalachian music, their art is one that interweaves genres and moments in time as they sing through the voices of old, all in the pursuit of crafting something new. Incorporating elements of old-time folk, bluegrass, and country music into their work, the Americana of which their latest music is comprised is encompassing in its acknowledgments of the houses that have built them. All the while, they’re blending these old-time facets into something contemporary, making for a captivatingly multi-sided performance.

‘Satan, Your Kingdom Must Come Down’ is the latest single from Zoe & Cloyd, out now on Organic Records. Shot by Mountain Water Films, For Folk’s Sake is premiering a live take that features the duo (alongside accomplished accompaniment) presenting the song as purveyors of traditional folk would — around a single mic. It’s an ensnaring performance with a straight-shooting message of salvation to pair alongside its old-time charms. Zoe & Cloyd found the traditional spiritual from a 1965 field recording of Frank Proffitt, from which they decided to revitalize it for their newest release.
