FFS to DJ at brand new London folk event

Gigging in London will be raised to another level this weekend as For Folk’s Sake dips its first tentative toe into the world of DJing at the Slaughtered Lamb in Clerkenwell on Sunday.

The brand-spanking new Moonshine Jamboree all-dayer is to become a regular fixture at the venue, and kicks off with a free afternoon of up-and-coming folk and acoustic artists for you to stick in your earholes.

Debut day will see Seasick Steve labelmates Congregation, FFS favourite Stars of Sunday League and the elusive Dominic Moran take to the stage among others, with DJ sets from yours truly, the End of the Road Festival Crew and DJ Mango Tango holding things up later in the evening.

The gigs are the brainchild of Anthony Chalmers, who in addition to his regular God Don’t Like It indie nights has gone back to his folk roots to create Moonshine Jamboree.

He said: “I’ve had a passion for folk music, blues, americana, anti-folk and the like for as long as I remember – my club nights were even called God Don’t Like It after the old blues song by Blind Willie Mctell.

“I decided I wanted to do a totally separate set of nights dedicated to some of my favorite more acoustic bands, and quickly sorted out doing every second Sunday at The Slaughtered Lamb – which already has a great reputation for folk artists, due to Electroacoustic club doing Monday to Wednesday there.

“All the shows are going to be free and going on all day. Basically it will be a chance to chill out on a Sunday in a lovely venue, with some great band and DJs playing the best new folk and blues.”

Check out the full line up for the free all dayer below, and jump on a tube to Barbican to while away your Sunday afternoon listening to some top new folk music – you’d be pretty damned mad not to.
