PJ Harvey films to be screened at UK festivals

UK festival goers will be able to see the series of short films created by Seamus Murphy to accompany each song on PJ Harvey’s Let England Shake on the big screen this summer.

The 12 films will be screened together at Latitude in July, and then the Big Chill and Reading and Leeds. They will first be shown individually at Glastonbury’s cinema tent at the end of this month.

Award-winning photographer Murphy created the films after clocking up 5,000 miles travelling around England gathering material. They were initially released on pjharvey.net.

The films have been described as “a combination of still and moving imagery, made in the manner of classic photographic reportage recording real & spontaneous situations to document England and the English”.

The films are also set for an international airing as PJ Harvey will join Murphy at the Prizren Dokufest Film Festival in Kosovo at the end of July where they will participate in an audience Q&A on the films.

Meanwhile, Harvey has announced two additional live dates in September following her festival appearances.

She will play Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall on September 4th and Manchester’s Apollo four days later.
