Premiere | Lomond Campbell – Fallen Stag

At the start of it all, Lomond Campbell defined the term “indie maestro.” Finding acclaim alongside DJ Stephen Marshall for their label Triassic Tusk, he first released Black River Promise last year. A delicate, eclectic record of modern folk compositions, Campbell followed in the footsteps of consummate artists like Andrew Bird and Chilly Gonzales to not just develop a record, but to craft his own intricate, melodic world around one.

The first track from off of the album, ‘Fallen Stag’, is said by Campbell to have been inspired by “finding an enormous red deer which had succumbed to pneumonia. Alas, the poor beast had fallen only days before winter was about to break and make way for one of the best summers the Highlands had seen for years.”

Now, we can hear the whimsical reverie more clearly than ever before thanks to the efforts of Jeff Barrett and Heavenly Recordings. The imprint has gone through remastering the album and giving its cover art a fresh lick of paint in hopes of attracting a larger audience. Given how gorgeous the track that you can listen to below is, we here at For Folk’s Sake don’t think Heavenly and Campbell will have much of a problem in achieving that goal.

The full remastering of Black River Promise is out on Nov. 3. For more information, visit Lomond Campbell’s Heavenly Recordings artist profile.
