FFS Schmercury shortlist announced. Get voting!

27 July 2009
By Helen True

VOTE HERE

It’s been a tough weekend here at FFS HQ, but through bitterly fought arguments, desperate whittling down and some pretty poor attempts at using maths to help us choose, the FFS Schmercury shortlist for 2009 is ready for your listening pleasure.

Here it is, in all its glory (and in alphabetical order so as not to indicate preference):

Alessi’s Ark – Notes From A Treehouse myspace spotify
Butcher Boy – React or Die myspace
Camera Obscura – My Maudlin Career myspace spotify
Darren Hayman – Pram Town myspace spotify
The Decemberists – The Hazards of Love Spotify
Drever, Mccusker and Woomble – Before the Ruin stream from website spotify
Emmy The Great – First Love myspace spotify
Grant Campbell – Expecting Great Things stream from website myspace
Jeffrey Lewis – ‘Em Are I myspace spotify
St Vincent – Actor myspace spotify
The Leisure Society – The Sleeper
 myspace spotify
Wildbirds & Peacedrums – The Snake
myspace spotify

So, what happens next?  Do we smugly wander off into our air-conditioned, leather-upholstered ivory tower to select the best album of 2009 alone, delusional with ideas of our own grandeur?  Um, no.  We ask you to vote, of course.

Just make sure that you do so with full knowledge of each of the incredible contenders.  Trust us, it’s much harder to choose than you’d think.

You can vote here NOW.

Voting closes on Friday 18th September, at 12 noon.  Let’s see if our winner’s better than the Mercury one.  It’s looking pretty likely from where we’re standing.

Thanks again to The Leftover Sessions, Wears the Trousers, Anika in London, Scott Pashby, Ant Casali, Rob Ball, Stu Burns, Bovine Mammal, iparky, Ant Chalmers and Joe Innes for suggestions.
