Blog | New music from Allo Darlin’, Foxes!, We Are Augustines, Jess Morgan & The Bandana Splits

Having finally cleared out all the big boxes of the For Folk’s Sake It’s Christmas 2011 CDs (thanks everybody for making the CD a total sell-out, and remember if you missed out, downloads are still available!) we finally had a chance to clear out our inboxes at FFS and stumbled upon several exciting sounds within them.

First off, we’re already getting over-excited about the new Allo Darlin’ album, Europe, even though it’s not out til May – which is a ludicrous SIX months away. But at least we can now hear something from it as the band have unveiled the first track, ‘Tallaluh’. They did this in the course of announcing that the entirely unrelated (and still under wraps) ‘Capricornia’ will be the first single, due out in February. Anyway, the video for ‘Tallulah’ is here.

Considerably earlier than May, and even before February, Brighton’s Foxes! are due to release their self-titled debut on Big Salad Records, and the band have now posted a video for ‘Oh Rosie’ to give us a taster. It’s a spectacular bit of visuals put together by the band’s clearly multi-talented drummer Kayla Bell.

We Are Augustines impressed us with their single ‘Book of Jones‘ last month and now they’re back with a Bob Dylan cover as part of an album put together by Amnesty International. Their version of ‘Mama, You’ve Been On My Mind’ can be seen via this Rolling Stone video.

Norwich’s Jess Morgan has apparently been getting plenty of love from radio stations and live audiences both here and abroad but the first we’d heard of her was this rather sweet track ‘Pamela’. Jess has dates lined up supporting the likes of the excellent Ellen & The Escapades, as well as some solo shows, in the new year.

11 Jan – Red Lion Folk Club, Birmingham (supporting Vin Garbutt)
16 Jan – Norwich Arts Centre, Norwich (supporting Ellen and the Escapades)
30 Jan – The Bicycle Shop, Norwich (supporting Foy Vance)
14 Feb – The Malt Cross, Nottingham
5 Apr – Young and Lost Club @ The Lock Tavern, London

And finally, we thought we’d leave you in the Christmas spirit as Dawn Landes’ delightful Bandana Splits offered up a festive treat in the form of their take on Paul McCartney’s ‘Wonderful Christmas Time’. It’s short, but undeniably sweet.
